The Law Office of James A. Shapiro, P.C. secures a $2M slip and fall verdict

Retired Judge Shapiro recently helped obtain a verdict of $2 million for a badly broken ankle sustained when his client slipped and fell on black ice on a River North sidewalk outside Pepper Construction Company. He and his co-counsel asked the jury to award their client $1.2 million, but the jury asked the judge whether they could award more. They awarded $800,000 more, for a total verdict of $2 million. The trial judge recently denied the defendant’s post-trial motion to reduce the size of the verdict or to take away entirely.
