“Once in a while, and you know that I have done this on occasion before to you, I am compelled to write you from my heart.  First of all, I can see the true emotion and extreme deliberation that went into your letter to the Pardons Specialist.  You are so skilled with your words and the points you made were everything [client] and I would have tried to say if we had to do this ourselves.  No one could have written a better plea.  Thank you for that.

You said that we pay for efforts and not necessarily results.  We do wish that the results could have been extremely better and we believe we received a lot worse than we ever could have imagined, but we could not have asked for more effort from [our local counsel], and especially from you Jamie.  Please believe that if we received any good luck in this whole case, it was to have found you for our attorney.  Having never had to hire an attorney before, we heard all the “stories” of what to expect from one….most of them not very favorable.  But our “stories” of our one experience with an attorney will certainly not be what most people expect.  We have already surprised people when we tell them of your dedication and heartfelt feelings for us.  Some really do not believe what we say.  Again, we feel so lucky that you came our way.  [Client] was so comforted by your visit last week.  You are a father, you know how important that was to us, being that we could not be there ourselves.  Thank you for that.

Our path in life now is not at all what we expected it to be at this point of our lives, but we pray everyday that God will help us get through.  We have our 2 grandsons to take care of (and [daughter-in-law] too)  and that is our top priority. Hopefully we can do the right things to help keep their lives as normal as can be.  Jamie I want you to know, because of your compassion to us, you have helped us through the worst time of our lives.  You can take pride in that.  Thank you for that.”

“Thank you . . .

…for having helped my cousin. You’re a very good man, as is he. God bless, & happy holidays.”

“Thank you for referring Mr Shapiro. We won a nice settlement. He was legally brilliant and maybe more important relaxed me personally knowing I was in good hands.”

“It is with much gratitude that I am writing this letter of recommendation for James A. Shapiro. I was involved in a “Road Rage” incident and subsequent altercation that ensued after I pulled over. After it was over, I drove away and unbeknownst to me, the driver called the police and signed a complaint against me. Three weeks later, I was arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Battery. I was devastated because I had never been arrested or charged before this incident and this was considered a crime of violence. I needed the best possible attorney to defend me.

After much research and many consultations, I chose James A. Shapiro as the best possible candidate to represent me in my case. He brought to the table a unique blend of 30 years of experience in criminal law as a former Cook County Judge hearing criminal cases, former Assistant U.S. Attorney, and now a criminal defense attorney. After careful review of the facts of my case, he recommended we take the case to trial. He said he could not ethically guarantee an outcome, but he felt my case was a winnable one, and based on this, I decided to proceed on his recommendation. So we went to court and set a trial date.

Judge Shapiro goes the extra mile–literally! On the morning of my trial date, he contacted me and asked me if I could take him on the driving route where the incident occurred so he could see the surroundings and fully understand what happened. We drove the route four times going over every detail so he clearly understood what took place. We then proceeded to court. At trial, Judge Shapiro was so articulate in his questioning of the alleged victim and his story. In his closing argument, he was able to raise reasonable doubt as to the validity of the alleged victim’s story. The trial Judge agreed that reasonable doubt existed and as a result, on May 12, 2015, I was found “NOT GUILTY” It was very impressive!

I am forever grateful to Judge Shapiro for what he did for me and I will never forget it. He protected my good name as well as my future. His personal commitment to my case was the key to this great Victory!”
